It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
